Scholar V Varun Chaudhry joins the CSWS staff as research assistant

CSWS welcomes scholar to the staff as pro tem research assistant.

Chaudhry is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Anthropology at Northwestern University. His work focuses on the institutionalization of “transgender” in nonprofit and funding agencies through ethnographic research in Philadelphia, PA.

Queering Teacher Education Curriculum authors win an article of the year award

Nov. 9 – Three University of Oregon faculty members in the College of Education’s education studies earned the 2018 Francis P. Hunkins Article of the Year Award from the American Association of Teaching and Curriculum. Jerry Rosiek, Alison Schmitke and Julie Heffeman wrote “Queering Teacher Education Curriculum: A Case Study of Lessons Learned in the Transformation of a Teacher Education Program.”

August 20, 2018—, head of the UO’s Department of Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies, has been selected for a half-time position as associate vice provost for academic affairs.

Braun, also an associate professor in the Department of International Studies, will continue her research and teaching half time, according to an announcement from the Office of the Provost.

August 2018—, associate professor of English and a CSWS faculty affiliate, received a National Endowment for the Humanities Public Scholars award in the amount of $60,000 for her project “The Sisterhood and Black Women’s Literary Organizing.”

In addition, Roach talks about the black feminist speaker series she is organizing for the 2018–19 academic year.”

Three CSWS faculty affiliates win Fund for Faculty Excellence Awards

June 19, 2018—Three CSWS faculty affiliates are among the 15 UO faculty members selected for the prestigious Fund for Faculty Excellence Awards for 2018-19, which were announced this week by UO Provost Jayanth Banavar.

The three scholars are:

  • Judith Eisen, professor, biology
  • Ernesto Martinez, associate professor, ethnic studies
  • Rocio Zambrana, associate professor, philosophy
Ernesto Martinez is a current member of the CSWS Advisory Board.
