Info meeting on Research Interest Groups, applying for funds set for April 8

CSWS faculty and graduate student affiliates are invited to attend an information session on forming Research Interest Groups (RIGs) and applying for RIG Innovation and Special Project/Initiative grant funds. The meeting will be held 12-1 p.m. Friday, April 8, in the Knight Library DREAM Lab (Room 122A).

CSWS offers grant funding to faculty and graduate students to organize interdisciplinary RIGs and working groups that explore and examine the complex nature of gender identities and inequalities. RIGs provide participants the opportunity to discuss readings of emerging and established feminist scholars and to share their research. Funding may be used to pay for reading materials, food, and visits by scholars. In addition, RIGs are encouraged to form working groups as the foundation for future conferences and symposia, course development, and publications.

RIGs are eligible to apply for up to $1,000 in grant funding for the upcoming academic year, renewable annually, to support their regular activities. In addition, current RIGs can apply for Innovation funding (individually or in collaboration with other RIGs) of up to $6,000 on an annual basis. RIG coordinators should meet with the CSWS director to discuss activities of the past year and their plans for the future before applying.

Special Projects/Initiatives are those that have the potential for external funding and/or that may become sustainable parts of CSWS. Funding provides seed money for projects with well-formulated, collaborative ideas and plans from affiliated faculty members, RIG members, or CSWS staff. Those seeking Special Project/Initiative Funding should meet with the CSWS director to discuss potential projects before applying.

Proposals for new and renewing RIGs and working groups, RIG Innovation funding, and Special Project/Initiative funding are due by Monday, May 2, for the 2022-23 academic year. Preference will be given to proposals that strengthen the intellectual theme and mission of the center. Where possible, proposals should draw scholars from different departments and ranks. Application information is available on the CSWS website.
