Research Interest Groups
CSWS offers small grants to faculty and graduate students to organize interdisciplinary Research Interest Groups (RIGs) and working groups that explore and examine the complex nature of gender identities and inequalities for the academic year.
RIGs provide participants the opportunity to discuss readings of emerging and established feminist scholars and share their research. Funding may be used to pay for reading materials, catering, visits by scholars, on-campus symposia and conferences, and similar campus events. Groups are encouraged to use RIGs as the foundation for future conferences and symposia, course development, and publications. Preference will be given to those RIGs that strengthen the intellectual theme of the Center. Where possible, RIG applications should draw scholars from different departments and ranks.
Those interested in organizing a RIG, or renewing funding for a current group, should submit an application that includes the following elements:
1. Title and subject areas
2. Overview and purpose
3. Planned activities and potential outcomes
4. Contact info for RIG coordinators (including a faculty advisor for graduate student RIGs) and list of members
5. Itemized Budget ($1000 max.)
Application Deadline: RIG applications are due by May 1 for the following academic year. Preference is given to proposals related to the Center's theme for that year (if applicable). RIG Application Form
Reporting: All RIGs and working groups will report annually on their activities and outcomes, to be published online and in the Annual Review. RIG reports are due by the end of the academic year for which funding was received (July 1). RIG Reporting Form

RIG Innovation Funding
Existing RIGs can apply for innovation funding (individually or in collaboration with other RIGs) of up to $6,000 on an annual basis. RIG coordinators and members should meet with CSWS staff during winter or spring term to discuss RIG activities of the past year, and plans for the future.
RIGs seeking funding must submit a proposal containing the following:
a) A 2-page proposal that includes the following:
- A summary of the current year’s RIG activities.
- The objectives of the RIG (reading groups, conference, speaker series,edited/online volume, use of technology to improve communication, collaborative research, use of work-study or GTF time, etc.).
- An explanation of how the funding will help advance our knowledge of women and gender, feminist research and theory, and/or related topics.
- A timeline of when and how the funds will be used.
b) A copy of their prior year annual RIG report, if the RIG has been in existence for more than a year.
c) 1-page budget with justification for each item.
Application Deadline: Proposals are due by May 1 for activities planned for the following academic year. Proposals should be emailed to the CSWS Director with the subject line "RIG Innovation Funding Application."

Special Projects and Initiatives Funding
Special Projects/Initiatives are those that have the potential for external funding and/or that may become sustainable parts of CSWS. Funding provides seed money for projects with well-formulated, collaborative ideas and plans from affiliated faculty members, RIG members, or CSWS staff. Click here for information on how to apply. Publicity Requests
When planning events for your RIG or special project, keep in mind that staff will need adequate advance notice for publicity. Upon request, we can distribute your digital posters and social media posts through our newsletter and other media. Please provide your materials at least three weeks in advance of your event.
If you want CSWS to design and print your vertical flyer or poster, or create horizontal posters for digital displays on campus, please make your request at least one month in advance of when you need to have material in hand. Remember that extra time is required if you want a poster reproduced on poster quality paper by UO Printing Services. Please send accurate information for the content of the poster. Include:
- Title of event
- Date / time / location (include room, building address)
- Speaker(s) name / title / affiliation / website link
- A high resolution .jpg of the speaker or any other image you want on the display (you are responsible for getting any permissions)
- A blurb about the content of the event
- List of sponsors
- Contact person and email address
