After many years at CSWS at the University of Oregon, this program is now housed at Oregon State University. CSWS plans to reinstate a women's health initiative in the future and hopes to continue joint projects with Dr. Harvey. For publications go to projects and pubs.
Mission
To generate, support, and disseminate
research that improves understanding of the diverse factors affecting
women's health.
Goals
1. To generate research on women's health, with a particular focus on:
a) Reproductive health
b) Health care decision-making
c) The needs of those whose access to health services or other societal
benefits may be impeded by their age, by poverty, or because of discrimination
based on gender, race, ethnicity, or culture
d) Other areas of public health and prevention
2. To disseminate research findings that inform and encourage scientific
inquiry; promote the development of sound policy, programs, and practice;
and enlighten public debate on women's health issues
3. To develop collaborative relationships with researchers
4. To enhance the reputation of CSWS as a research center
Current Projects include
Partners Project: The major goal of the project is to evaluate the
effectiveness of a theory-based couples’ intervention on increasing safer sex behavior.
Diaphragm Project: The overall goal of this NICHD funded project is to improve understanding of the acceptability of
the vaginal diaphragm for the prevention of HIV and other STIs (Harvey, Bird & Branch, 2003).
