Mia Alvar is the author of In the Country, a collection of short stories that won the PEN/Bingham Prize for Debut Fiction, the Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers Award, and the University of Rochester’s Janet Heidinger Kafka Prize. In the Country was named one of the best books of 2015 by the San Francisco Chronicle, Publishers Weekly, Amazon, the Huffington Post, BuzzFeed, and others. Born in the Philippines and raised in Bahrain and New York, Mia received her MFA in Fiction from Columbia University and now lives in Los Angeles.
