Speaker: Patricia Limerick Nationally esteemed historian Patricia Limerick is the author of the widely read book, The Legacy of Conquest: The Unbroken Past of the American West, and author of the 2001 book, Something in the Soil: Legacies and Reckonings in the New West. Her op-eds and articles on topics related to the West have appeared in such publications as the New York Times, High Country News, and the Chronicle of Higher Education. After earning her PhD in American Studies at Yale, Dr. Limerick went on to teach for a number of years at Harvard University before moving to the University of Colorado. In recent years, Dr. Limerick has been the recipient of the Colorado award for State Humanist of the Year, as well as the Hazel Barnes Prize, which is the highest honor bestowed on a University of Colorado faculty member. She is also the recipient of a MacArthur "Genius" Fellowship.
