Feminist Philosophy RIG

The mission of the Feminist Philosophy RIG, (formerly Feminist Philosophy and the Production of Political Subjectivities) has shifted to a broader focus on contemporary feminist theory. This shift reflects a change in RIG membership. We moved to expand our group to be a place for feminist scholars interested in contemporary theory to meet, engage with one another across disciplines, and read and discuss contemporary work in feminist theory. We also want to engage with the authors of the work that we are reading, and to that end invite a small number of feminist thinkers to campus each year to hold public lectures and to conduct small seminars with RIG participants.

Our hope is that these efforts will begin to create a pool of common intellectual engagement/experience for RIG members that will enrich our lives, our scholarship, and the feminist community on campus, as well as bridge some of the gaps between disciplines that sometimes make it harder for us to work together.

In 2006-07 the RIG was focused on launching the Society for Interdisciplinary Penomenology, generously funded by grants from CSWS, CAS, and the Department of Philosophy. During winter and spring terms the RIG met to continue to read and discuss feminist work which focused on the intersections between phenomenology and American pragmatism.

Place and time of meetings are announced in the RIG Update.
