
Centolia Maldonado
Frente Indigena De Organizaciones Binacionales (FIOB), Juxtlahuaca, Oaxaca
Born in Oaxaca and a migrant during her childhood years, Centolia could be found by her parents’ side in the agricultural fields of Sinaloa and Sonora in the border zone of northern Mexico. In addition to her work with FIOB, she has also worked with the National Indigenous Institute directing the work group on national and international indigenous migrants. Centolia Maldonado Vásquez is currently the District Coordinator and Director of Economic Development Projects of the FIOB in Juxtlahuaca, Oaxaca. Centolia is also member of the outreach committee of ECOMIX (Espacio de Economías Solidarias) a state-wide NGO that provides technical assistance to grassroots organizations in Oaxaca. Centolia has extensive experience working with women who are left behind in the Mixtec region of Oaxaca while their husbands and children are in the U.S. She coordinates the Women’s Regional Council of the Indigenous Front of Binational Organizations (FIOB) of Juxtlahuaca. Centolia's organizational experiences, particularly with women, have been documented in the films Sueños Binacionales and Mujeres que se Organizan Avanzan.
